Benefits of technology

This patent is about making tobacco products safer and easier to identify. The invention uses fluorescent or phosphorescent substances that are colorless or match the color of the tobacco product they are applied to. The substances may glow in the dark after being stimulated and can be made visible only in the dark or muted light. They are applied to the mouthpiece of filter cigarettes or the outermost layer of the finished product. The invention does not change the appearance of the tobacco product in daylight. The use of these substances can help to quickly detect the tobacco product in the dark and increase its protection against counterfeiting or identify important information about it.

Problems solved by technology

The disadvantage is that the ready-to-use cigarette has no luminescent properties, or that additional packaging material is required on each individual filter cigarette.
The disadvantage is that compared to the substances of the luminescent coating, a coating with lacquer can only be produced in a dense layer in a very elaborate manner which requires a time-consuming coating with a relatively thick lacquer layer.
In addition, this coating with lacquer can interact with the luminescent substances through the solvent of the protective lacquer, which can result in the attenuation of the luminous effect, or causes the luminescent substances to migrate with the solvent of the protective lacquer into deeper layers of the filter cigarette, or fine structures of the fluorescent coating become “washed out” and thus blurred.

second embodiment

[0042]FIG. 2 shows the second embodiment according to the invention, in which the luminous printing 2 is limited to one or more subregions of the mouthpiece wrapper material 5 which are located in the front region of the mouthpiece wrapper material 5 so as not to come into contact with the lips of a person during the intended use of the filter cigarette 1. The luminous printing 2 can be applied in particular in the form of one or more bands extending over the circumference of the filter cigarette 1, or as a pattern which is composed of printed subregions that are distributed throughout, contiguous with, or separated from one another.

third embodiment

[0043]FIG. 3 shows the third embodiment according to the invention in which the luminous printing 2 is on the bottom, so as to be applied to the side of the mouthpiece wrapper material 5 facing the filter wrapper material 4, wherein the mouthpiece wrapper material 5 is at least as so light-transmissive or translucent that luminescent light exposed from the printing is visible or detectable from the outside. In this variant, the mouthpiece wrapper material 5 is preferably in the form of a transparent film made of plastic or particularly preferably of cellulose hydrate. The luminescent printing 2 can be present over the entire area on the underside of the mouthpiece wrapper material 5, or applied to at least one subregion, for example, in the form of one or more bands extending over the circumference of the filter cigarette 1, or as a pattern which is composed of printed subregions that are distributed throughout, contiguous with, or separated from one another. Less preferably, the lu...

fourth embodiment

[0044]FIG. 4 shows the fourth embodiment according to the invention, in which the mouthpiece wrapper material 5 has at least one opening 8 which is preferably made by laser cutting (laser die cut) and exposing the underlying layer of the layer structure. Below the opening 8 is mounted an intermediate layer 7 of translucent material which can cover only the opening 8, or an annular region of the mouthpiece wrapper material 5 which encloses the opening 8, or the entire surface of the mouthpiece wrapper material 5. The printing 4 is preferably applied to the underside of the intermediate layer 7, wherein this can be limited to a subregion of the surface of the opening 8. The intermediate layer 7 is preferably a transparent film of plastic or particularly cellulose hydrate.

Abstract

A filter cigarette includes a filter, a filter wrapper material enwrapping the filter, a tobacco rod, a tobacco rod wrapper material enwrapping the tobacco rod, and a mouthpiece wrapper material. The mouthpiece wrapper material enwraps at least a subregion of the filter wrapper material and has an upper surface which forms at least part of the surface of the filter cigarette. The filter cigarette has at least one fluorescent or phosphorescent substance in the region of the mouthpiece wrapper material below the upper surface of the mouthpiece wrapper material. The mouthpiece wrapper material has an opening in at least one region of the fluorescent or phosphorescent substance or is embodied as a translucent or transparent film, so that this at least one region is visible from the outside of the filter cigarette.

Description

CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS[0001]This application is a national phase application of PCT Application No. PCT / AT2017 / 060181, filed Jul. 20, 2017, which claims priority to Austrian Patent Application No. A 50669 / 2016, dated Jul. 21, 2016, both of which are incorporated by reference in their entirety.FIELD OF THE INVENTION[0002]The invention relates to a tobacco product in the form of a filter cigarette with fluorescent or phosphorescent substances.[0003]A tobacco product with fluorescent or phosphorescent substances in the sense of the present specification is a tobacco product which exhibits at least one externally visible or detectable feature upon excitation of the fluorescent or phosphorescent substance. The printing described herein is also applicable to packaging material of tobacco products, wherein this application is disclosed but not claimed within this application.DESCRIPTION OF RELATED ART[0004]US2921587A shows a filter cigarette with a luminescent or phosphore...
