Electromagnetic surveying for hydrocarbon reservoirs

A method of analyzing results from an underwater controlled source electromagnetic (CSEM) survey of an area that is thought or known to contain a subterranean hydrocarbon reservoir is described. The method is based on a wavefield extrapolation of narrow-band electromagnetic field data obtained from pairs of source and receiver locations. The data comprise a plurality of discrete frequencies between 0.01 Hz and 60 Hz. The wavefield extrapolation is performed for each of these discrete frequencies to provide distributions of electromagnetic scattering coefficient as a function of position and depth beneath the survey area. These distributions may then be combined to provide a displayable image of electromagnetic scattering coefficient. The method is able to quickly provide a displayable image that is readily interpretable.

Analysis of mixtures including proteins

The quality control of vaccines is an important step in the release of vaccines to patients. Problems when dealing with vaccines include stability, batch-to-batch consistency and contamination. The invention provides a method of analyzing the composition of a protein-containing sample by electromagnetic spectroscopy, and derivatising the obtained spectrum to obtain a derivative spectrum of the sample. The derivative spectrum may optionally be compared to a reference spectrum, to assess stability, contamination etc. relative to the reference. The derivative analysis technique allows the separation and discrimination between the spectral contributions of different components, thereby allowing differences in the spectra to be assigned to particular groups of the protein, or particular contaminants etc.

System and Method of Addressing Nonlinear Relative Motion for Collision Probability Using Parallelepipeds

Collision probability analysis for spherical objects exhibiting linear relative motion is accomplished by combining covariances and physical object dimensions at the point of closest approach. The resulting covariance ellipsoid and hardbody are projected onto the plane perpendicular to relative velocity by assuming linear relative motion and constant positional uncertainty throughout the brief encounter. Collision potential is determined from the object footprint on the projected, two-dimensional, covariance ellipse. To accommodate nonlinear motion in accordance with the disclosed embodiments, the dimension associated with relative velocity is reintroduced by segmenting the collision tube volume into a plurality of mitered tube sections modeled as bundles of parallelepipeds in Mahalanobis space. Disclosed embodiments compute the probability of each parallelepiped as the combined object passes through the space, and sums. The method is not dependent on a specific motion propagator and is designed to handle any object shape by using pixel files of the object images.

Method and system for defining material properties hierarchically in finite element analysis

A system, method and software product for defining material properties hierarchically in a finite element analysis of a structure is disclosed. As a material type is created, the type is checked whether it is a root material type. If so, all of the material properties are defined explicitly in the current definition. Otherwise, the parent material type is searched and located first until the traversing finds a root definition. All of the material properties of the parent material type(s) found are read in and stored as the base properties of the material to be created. The material properties explicitly defined in the current definition of the material will either overwrite or add to the base properties. The material properties definition resembles a hierarchical tree: each of the material properties type has a parent material except the root material type which is on the top of the tree.
