Abstract

A work loading / unloading system has a conveyance device for supporting rectangular plate-like work from its lower surface side, in a substantially horizontal position, and conveying the work in a substantially horizontal direction; placement sections formed in multiple stages in the vertical direction, having an opening through which the conveyance device can pass, and on which the work is placed in the substantially horizontal position; a side section in which a loading / unloading opening for the work is formed; a bottom section in which an entrance through which the conveyance device can pass is formed; a receiving cassette placed above the conveyance device; and a lifting means for relatively vertically moving the receiving cassette and the conveyance device. Lifting and lowering operation of the lifting means causes the conveyance device to be advanced into the receiving cassette, and the conveyance device unloads the work on the placement section to the outside of the receiving cassette and loads the work from the outside of the receiving cassette on to the placement section. The conveyance device has conveyance sections arranged two-dimensionally and independently driven of each other. The conveyance sections are selectively driven based on the size of the work and on that position on the placement section which is the source or destination of the conveyance of the work.
