Problems solved by technology

In the long run, this creates an imbalance in the knee joint and abnormal stress on the ligaments, which can lead to loosening of the prosthesis
[0047] Another disadvantage of conventional prosthetic knee assemblies is the pinching or impingement of soft tissue on the posterior side of the prosthetic knee assembly
[0049] Many known knee prostheses designed to mechanically stabilize the knee do not provide greater knee flexion

Embodiment Construction

[0095] Referring now to the accompanying drawings which describe some preferred embodiments of the invention Figure 7-2 8 illustrates the present invention.

[0096] Figure 7 An artificial femoral component 31 and a tibial component 32 according to the invention are shown. The femoral component 31 is designed to cooperate with the tibial component 32 to imitate / simulate the articulation of the anatomical knee joint: rocking motion along the vertical axis that allows the knee joint to extend and flex, the femoral component to slide back and forth over the tibial component, and the two components Flips inside and out along a vertical axis with sliding.

[0097] The femoral component 31 comprises a 'U' shaped body, wherein one arm 18 is longer than the other arm 12, and the outer surface of the long arm 18 has a depression 33[ Figure 7 not visible in ], the depression that accommodates the patella (anatomical patella 79 or prosthetic patella 115 in Figure 7 Both are not v...

Abstract

A knee joint prosthesis is disclosed. The prosthesis has a femoral component and a tibial component. The tibial component has a tibial plateau element fitted in a tibial tray element. A hemi capstan shaped bridge member is provided between replicated condyles on the femoral component. A specially shaped post is provided between kidney shaped meniscal depression on the tibial plateau element. The bridge member and the post act together to form an additional joint for load transfer during deep flexion of the prosthesis in its operative configuration.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to knee prostheses. [0002] In particular, the present invention relates to knee prostheses capable of high knee flexion. [0003] More specifically, the present invention relates to knee prostheses that replace the articulation / joint surfaces of the femur and tibia. Background technique [0004] As shown in the attached picture figure 1 , 2 The human knee joint 60 shown in and 3 is used to realize the basic functions of a normal life of a human individual. The knee joint is one of the largest and most structurally complex joints in the human body, and the primary joint used for movement. This is due to the fact that it is the junction of the longest rods of the lower body (femur and leg bones), which is characterized by the greatest range of motion in walking. Unlike the hip, the knee lacks inherent stability due to its bony connection and its stability based on soft tissue. The knee joint includes important ligame...
