Abstract

An intake device for an internal combustion engine has an intake muffler (30) forming an expansion chamber (33) and also has a connection tube (40) having an inflow opening (46) from which air in the expansion chamber (33) flows in and an outflow opening (47) from which air flowing to a combustion chamber flows out. The connection tube (40) is made from an elastic material having rubber elasticity and has a connection section (41) connected to the air intake muffler (30), an inner tube section (42) extending from the connection section (41), in the expansion chamber (33), and in which the inflow opening (46) is formed, and an outer tube section (43) to which a throttle valve device (50) is connected. A communication hole (44) is provided in a tube wall (42w) of the inner tube section (42), and the communication hole (44) causes the expansion chamber (33) and an air path (45) to communicate with each other in order to make the expansion chamber (33) function as a resonance chamber. The outer tube section (43) has a shorter length than the inner tube section (42). Thus, sound muffling by expansion and sound muffling by resonance are combined in the intake muffler.
