Embodiment Construction

[0100] The present invention is based on the induction method. figure 1 The general principle is shown for a single coil embodiment. The magnetic field generated by the current in the measuring coil 10 induces eddy currents in the conductive tissue 11 of the body of the subject to be screened (induction of eddy currents in the volume conductor).

[0101] figure 2 The shown equivalent circuit for modeling a measurement system with a single-coil setup employs standard electrical components described according to figure 1 Case. The measuring coil 10 of the primary circuit 12 passes through the inductance L 1i Coupled to a body circuit 13 that is primarily defined by the electrical properties of the tissue, blood vessels and bones within the screening volume 11 of the subject's body. Due to changes within the screened body volume 11, the resonant frequency and impedance of the circuits 12, 13 also change. For example, blood will exhibit different electrical resistances at di...

Abstract

In order to provide an easy-to-use technique for measuring blood pressure and / or other vital signs of a subject, a sensor for detecting the passing of a pulse wave from a subject's arterial system is suggested, the sensor being adapted to be located at a sensing position on the exterior of the subject's body, characterized in that the sensor comprises a number of electrical coils for generating an inductive coupling to the subject's body in a way that the properties of said inductive coupling change if a pulse wave passes a screened volume underneath the sensing position, and a circuit connected to the number of electrical coils, said circuit being adapted to detect said property changes of the inductive coupling.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to sensors and methods for detecting the passage of pulse waves from the arterial system of a subject. Furthermore, the invention also relates to a non-invasive measurement system adapted to be attached to the outside of a subject's body, and also to a method for determining various vital signs of a subject. Background technique [0002] Blood pressure (BP) is one of the most important physiological parameters, which plays an important role in medical diagnosis, prevention, and disease management systems. Blood pressure is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease and kidney disease. In 2006, 65 million adults in the United States had hypertension, defined as systolic blood pressure >140 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure >90 mmHg, and / or used antihypertensive drugs. Additionally, one in four U.S. adults is "prehypertensive." These figures demonstrate that hypertension poses a significant societal burde...
