Local Causal and Markov Blanket Induction Method for Causal Discovery and Feature Selection from Data

In many areas, recent developments have generated very large datasets from which it is desired to extract meaningful relationships between the dataset elements. However, to date, the finding of such relationships using prior art methods has proved extremely difficult especially in the biomedical arts. Methods for local causal learning and Markov blanket discovery are important recent developments in pattern recognition and applied statistics, primarily because they offer a principled solution to the variable/feature selection problem and give insight about local causal structure. The present invention provides a generative method for learning local causal structure around target variables of interest in the form of direct causes/effects and Markov blankets applicable to very large datasets and relatively small samples. The method is readily applicable to real-world data, and the selected feature sets can be used for causal discovery and classification. The generative method GLL-PC can be instantiated in many ways, giving rise to novel method variants. In general, the inventive method transforms a dataset with many variables into either a minimal reduced dataset where all variables are needed for optimal prediction of the response variable or a dataset where all variables are direct causes and direct effects of the response variable. The power of the invention and significant advantages over the prior art were empirically demonstrated with datasets from a diversity of application domains (biology, medicine, economics, ecology, digit recognition, text categorization, and computational biology) and data generated by Bayesian networks.

The invention discloses a shortest path induction method based on real road network features and dynamic travel time. The method includes the steps that firstly, the real road network features are taken into account, and a road network abstract graph is obtained based on intersection turning restriction information and link traffic flow direction maldistribution; secondly, the dynamic travel time of a road section is predicted by regarding real-time travel time and historical travel time as factors, and road section traffic impedance is calculated and serves as road section weight of an abstract road network according to the predicted dynamic travel time; finally, the real-time shortest path is obtained through the shortest path search algorithm. The method overcomes the defects that an existing road network abstract model can not reflect the real road network features (the intersection turning restriction information and the link traffic flow direction maldistribution) and an existing shortest path induction method based on static traffic information can not respond to accidental, random and dynamic traffic events (such as traffic jams, temporary control and traffic accidents) in time and the other defects, and the induction path obtained through the method is better in real-time performance, more accurate and more effective.

The invention discloses a non-location sensor technology for three-phase electro-magnetic double-salient pole machine starting and low-speed accelerating processes. According to the characteristics of an electro-magnetic double-salient pole machine, exciting current is not applied in a static state, but fixed-cycle low voltage pulse signal judging phase current is applied on armature windings, double-phase series connection self inductance is then calculated, and a rotor position is estimated. During a low-speed accelerating process, the mutual inductance sum of two phases of series connection windings and an excitation winding is calculated according to the armature current gradient when chopped waves are acquired in real time, so that the non-location low-speed accelerating technology for accelerating a motor is carried out. By utilizing the method, the initial rotor position can be accurately positioned, a rotor sector can be identified and fed back in real time during the low-speed accelerating, the maximum inductance is obtained through comparison, and the phase shifting time is determined after time delay. Consequently, the rotor positions can be fed back during the whole starting and accelerating processes, so that the motor cannot be out of step during the starting process and has strong antijamming capability. By utilizing the technology, the three-phase electro-magnetic double-salient pole machine can be enabled to start and accelerate stably and reliably.

Methods, apparatus and precursors for producing substantially water-free silica soot, preforms and glass. The methods and apparatus make substantially water-free fused silica preforms or glass by removing water as a reaction product, removing water from the atmosphere, removing water from the transport process, or combinations thereof. In a first embodiment, substantially water-free soot, preforms or glass are achieved by using a hydrogen-free fuel, such as carbon monoxide, in the deposition process. In another embodiment, a soot producing burner has parameters that enable operation on a substantially hydrogen-free fuel. End burners, which minimize water production, are also described. Such water-free methods are useful in depositing fluorine-doped soot because of the low water present and the efficiency in which fluorine is incorporated. In another embodiment, glassy barrier layer methods and apparatus are described for minimizing dopant migration, especially fluorine. Laser and induction methods and apparatus for forming the barrier layer are depicted. A chlorine, fluorine and silica precursor, such as chlorofluorosilane, may be utilized to form fluorinated soot. Other methods and apparatus are directed to combinations of conventional and substantially water-free processes. One embodiment is directed to combustion enhancing additives for addition to the substantially hydrogen-free fuels. The methods and apparatus in accordance with the invention are particularly useful for producing photomask substrates and optical fiber preforms.

It is an object of the present invention to prevent temperature decrease in a border portion of each of heating coils and to enable to eliminate an influence given by the change in a load state. In order to attain this object, an induction heating unit 400 according to the present invention is provided with control units 420 (420a to 420d) respectively corresponding to a plurality of heating units 310 (310a to 310d). A phase detector 424d of the control unit 420d obtains a phase difference between an output current (heating coil current IL4) of an inverter 314d detected by a current transformer 160d and a reference signal outputted by a reference signal generating section 426, and inputs it to a drive control section 422d. The drive control section 422d adjusts an output timing (phase) of a gate pulse to be given to the inverter 314d so as to make a phase of the heating coil current IL4 of the inverter 314d coincide with a phase of the reference signal outputted by the reference signal generating section 426. A phase control section 334d controls a variable reactor 326d so as to make the phases of an output voltage and the output current (heating coil current IL4) of the inverter 314d coincide with each other, and improves a power factor of the inverter 314d. Each of the other control units 420a to 420c also performs the same control operation.
