An aerosol delivery device is provided that includes a substrate configured to carry an aerosol precursor composition, and includes an induction transmitter, induction receiver and control component. The induction transmitter is configured to generate an oscillating magnetic field. The induction receiver is positioned in proximity to the substrate, and configured to generate heat when exposed to the oscillating magnetic field and thereby vaporize components of the aerosol precursor composition. The control component is configured to direct current to the induction transmitter to drive the induction transmitter to generate the oscillating magnetic field, with the control component being configured to direct the current according to a zero voltage switching (ZVS) inverter topology.

A susceptor composition that can bond two or more layers or substrates to one another and that can be used to coat or cut a substrate. The susceptor composition is activated in the presence of radio frequency (RF) energy. In one embodiment, the susceptor composition of the present invention comprises at least one ionomer and a polar carrier. The ionomer and polar carrier are blended with one another and form a mixture, preferably a uniform mixture. The ionomer and polar carrier are present in an amount effective to allow the susceptor composition to be heated by RF energy. Also disclosed are RF induction heating systems.

A system and method for inductively heating a workpiece includes a controller and a plurality of power supplies that receive and send signals to the controller. Induction heads receive power from the power supplies. The induction heads may be aligned with adjacent segments of the workpiece, and can span the perimeter of the workpiece. The gap between adjacent induction heads is less than one half the size of the adjacent induction heads, and preferably the induction heads abut or substantially abut. Each of the power supplies include feedback for controlling the power delivered to the segments of the workpiece. In alternative embodiments the feedback may be based on the current or power provided to the induction heads, or the power provided to the workpiece.

An auxiliary welding heating system includes an induction heating coil disposed adjacent to a welding torch or plasma cutter. The auxiliary welding heating system further includes an induction power supply configured to generate an alternating current and a step-down transformer coupled to the induction power supply. The induction heating coil is coupled to the step-down transformer and is configured to receive the alternating current and induce eddy currents in a welding work piece to heat the welding work piece before an advancing welding arc or plasma cut to a homologous temperature of at least approximately 0.5.

An induction heating device comprises a frequency converter that generates a high-frequency drive voltage from an intermediate circuit voltage generated at least temporarily as a function of an AC mains voltage, a resonant circuit having an induction heating coil, with the drive voltage applied to the resonant circuit, and a temperature detection device that determines a temperature of a cooking vessel base which is heated by means of the induction heating coil. An auxiliary voltage source generated the intermediate circuit voltage over predefined time periods at a constant level. The frequency converter generates the drive voltage over time periods such that the resonant circuit oscillates at a natural resonant frequency in a substantially de-attenuated manner, and the temperature detection device further measuring at least one oscillation parameter over the time periods, and to evaluate the at least one measured oscillation parameter in order to determine the temperature.

Method and apparatus for providing harmonic inductive power, and more particularly for delivering current pulses providing a desired amount of pulse energy in high frequency harmonics to a load circuit for inductive heating of an article. By controlling the shape and/or frequency of such current pulses, the apparatus and method can be used to enhance the rate, intensity and/or power of inductive heating delivered by the heater coil and/or to enhance the lifetime or reduce the cost and complexity of an inductive heating power supply. Of particular significance, the apparatus and method may be used to significantly increase the power inductively delivered to a ferromagnetic or other inductively heated load, without requiring an increase of current in the heater coil. This enables new heating applications, and in some known applications, decreases the energy consumption or cooling requirements and/or increase the lifetime of the heater coil.

In part, the disclosure relates to an electromagnetic current displacement apparatus that includes one or more magnetic field sources and an alternating current source. The apparatus includes current delivery electrodes that may be part of a cuff, a hand held device, or individual electrode pads suitable for temporary fixation to skin. In one embodiment, an alternating current is transcutaneously delivered using skin contacting electrodes sized and arranged to avoid hotspots and provide a uniform delivery of the current. In turn, current attractors and repulsors can be arranged on the skin or in a suitable device to push or pull sections of the current that is disposed below such elements. Magnetic fields can be applied and focused to the regions through which the current passes, effectively pushing the current deeper into a target region below the surface of the skin.

The present invention provides an induction heating device for a fuel cell system, which can rapidly heat coolant during cold start-up, control the power consumption depending on the voltage of a fuel cell stack, and ensure the insulation resistance by separating a heating unit, which is in contact with the coolant, from the outside. That is, the present invention provides an induction heating device for a fuel cell system, in which an insulating housing is provided in a coolant circulation line, a heater for heating coolant is provided in the housing, and a high frequency controller for controlling the power consumption of the heater is provided at the outside of the housing such that the coolant can be rapidly heated during cold start-up, precisely control the power consumption depending of the voltage of a fuel cell stack, and improve the insulation performance by separating the heater as a heating unit, which is in contact with the coolant, and the high frequency controller and a coil as a power unit with respect to the insulating housing.

Various mold apparatuses and methods for forming a polymer with induction heat energy are provided. In one embodiment of the present invention, a mold apparatus for forming polymer includes a mold having a top mold portion and a top mold surface that is magnetic. The bottom mold portion of the mold includes an induction heating unit that is at least partially embedded in the bottom mold portion that provides induction heat energy to the mold. The mold apparatus is constructed and arranged to dissipate greater than about 50% of the induction heat energy in the top mold portion. The induction heating unit of the bottom portion of the mold provides rapid heating the top mold surface to provide high surface quality polymer parts a shorter molding cycle time while utilizing less energy.

Heating systems and methods for inductive heating or a combination of resistive and inductive heating. A heater coil is inductively coupled to an article and a current signal is supplied to the heater coil. The heater coil generates a magnetic flux, based on the applied current signal, for inductively heating the article. Current pulses of a certain profile are used to enhance the rate, intensity and/or power of inductive heating delivered by the heating element or coil and/or to enhance the lifetime or reduce the cost of the inductive heating system.

A method and apparatus for rapid and selective heating of materials using variable frequency RF and microwaves. The apparatus uses variable frequency solid state electronics as a microwave power source, a novel microwave heating head to couple microwave energy to the target materials and a match-up network to tune the frequency and impedance match between the microwave source and the load. An electronic and computer measurement and control system is employed to monitor and control the microwave heating process. The method teaches the use of inductive microwave coupling for thin conductive materials such as metal film and impurity doped silicon wafers. The method also teaches the use of capacitive microwave coupling for dielectric material such as glass and ceramics. The method further teaches the use of rapid and selective heating of heterostructure for bonding and sealing of mems and integrated circuits. The method and apparatus can provide ultra-high heating speed along with ultra-high heating temperatures for rapid thermal processing of semiconductors and other materials. It also allows the use of bonding materials with high melting temperature for strong bonding and sealing of mems and IC devices. The apparatus further provides for high interconnection density of integrated circuits as connections are made without the use of solder bumps.
