Abstract

The invention provides an elevator device. In the elevator device, a drive device is placed at the upper portion of a hoistway so that the rotation shaft of a drive sheave is horizontal. At the upper portion of the hoistway, there are arranged an elevator car pulley around which suspension means is wrapped, a counterweight pulley, and a diverter pulley. Rotation shafts of the elevator car pulley,the counterweight pulley, and the diverter pulley are horizontal, respectively. The bending direction of the suspension means relative to the elevator car pulley and the bending direction of the suspension means relative to the diverter pulley are opposite to each other.
