Embodiment Construction

[0018] According to an embodiment of the present invention, techniques for establishing a transmission scheme include using channel quality information to allocate resource blocks and select antennas. This technique is especially suitable for the case where the base station has sufficient channel quality information available. The first embodiment of the technique is especially applicable in cases where, for each UE, channel quality information, for example in the form of a CQI, is available to the base station on a resource block-by-resource-block and antenna-by-antenna basis. The second embodiment of the technique is especially applicable in cases where the full set of CQIs is not available to the base station, eg when the UE feeds selected CQIs to the base station. refer to Figures 2A-2C To describe an example of the first embodiment, refer to Figures 3A-3C An example of the second embodiment is described.

Abstract

A technique for managing the transmission resources in a wireless communications system (100) that includes a base station (102) and a plurality of mobile stations (104), wherein the base station is configured to transmit baseband signals from at least two antennas (106), involves identifying resource blocks that are available for baseband transmissions, identifying antennas (106) of the base station (102) that are available for baseband transmissions, and establishing a transmission scheme for the plurality of mobile stations (104) that defines both the allocation of available resource blocks and the selection of available antennas (106) amongst the plurality of mobile stations (104).

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to wireless communication systems, and more particularly to establishing transmission schemes in a multi-user environment. Background technique [0002] The establishment of the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) is based on the evolved Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) core network and its supported radio access technologies (i.e. Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) and Time Division Duplex (TDD) ) in both modes of Universal Mobile Telecommunications System Terrestrial Radio Access (UTRA)), to develop globally available technical specifications and technical reports for third-generation mobile systems. Subsequently, the above scope was changed to include the maintenance and development of GSM technical specifications and technical reports covering evolved radio access technologies such as General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) and Enhanced Data Rate GSM Services (EDGE )). [0003] In 3GPP Long Term...
