[0141] Ultra-thin feminine care pads are provided and the cover material is removed. Such nursing pads are available from the currently commercially available KOTEX SOFT & SMOOTH. The embossed hydrophobic spunbond side cover material was cut into strips, each measuring 230mm x 50mm. The side covers are placed on the exposed absorbent core on opposite sides of the article (the garment-facing side) so that the side covers are longitudinally aligned with the article, with each side cover positioned to be aligned with each longitudinal direction of the nursing pad. The sides were spaced 15 mm apart so that a portion of the absorbent core was exposed between the side cover strips. The side cover material was a 25 grams per square meter hydrophobic bicomponent spunbond material made of polypropylene / polyethylene (commercially available from Toray Saehan, which has a place of business in Korea). Each side cover is attached to the nursing pad using hot melt adhesive.

Abstract

An absorbent article has a longitudinal direction, a transverse direction, a first major surface which forms a body-facing surface of the absorbent article, and a second major surface disposed distally from the first major surface which forms a garment-facing surface of the absorbent article. The article includes an absorbent core positioned between the first major surface and the second major surface, and at least one liquid shrinkable string. The at least one barrier structure is disposed on the first major surface, and an inward-facing side of the at least one barrier structure is attached to the absorbent article. In addition, a first portion of the at least one liquid shrinkable string is attached to the at least one barrier structure.

Description

Background technique [0001] Absorbent articles, such as feminine care products, incontinence products, and training pants, are used to absorb and contain bodily waste. These products have been developed to the extent that they quickly absorb body exudates and retain them away from the wearer's skin so that the wearer remains relatively dry and comfortable. While this improved performance enhances dryness and comfort for the wearer, the article may still leak, especially during fluid soil surges or when the article is about to fill. In one example, adult care product wearers, especially women, are very concerned about spills in public. Some wearers are so bothered by leaks that if a leak occurs in public, they may avoid that place and situation for the rest of their lives. Therefore, leakage is a very annoying characteristic of adult care products. [0002] Likewise, leaking of menstrual products poses serious problems for women and can be socially embarrassing, especially i...
