Embodiment Construction

[0045] The present invention will now be described with reference to specific examples. It should be noted that these specific examples are intended to provide better understanding to those skilled in the art, and are not intended to limit the scope of the present invention in any way, which is defined by the appended claims.

[0046] figure 1 The network configuration in one embodiment of the present invention is schematically shown. UE 12 has access to both RAN 10-1 and RAN 10-2. For each RAN 10-1, RAN 10-2, a corresponding service entity 14-1, 14-2 is provided in the control plane.

[0047] One of the service entities in the control plane is assigned the master role, while the other service entities in the control plane are all assigned the slave role. although figure 1 One slave service entity is shown in , however there may be more than one slave service entity. exist figure 1 In , the star mark indicates that the master role is assigned to the service entity 14-2. ...

Abstract

A method for operating a communication network includes at least two radio access networks (10-1, 10-2) in which a user equipment (12) can simultaneously be registered and, for each of the at least two radio access networks (10-1, 10-2), a serving entity (14-1, 14-2) in the control plane. The method including the steps of assigning (s16) a master role to one serving entity (14-2) and a slave role to the other serving entity (14-1) or entities; and when a serving entity (14-1) to which a slave role is assigned has to perform control plane signalling (s18), transmitting (s20), by the serving entity, a signalling message to the serving entity (14-2) to which the master role is assigned, so as to perform (s22) the control plane signalling Servers acting as serving entities, systems including such servers, and computer programs executable on the servers are also disclosed.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a method for controlling a communication network, a server configured to act as a control plane serving entity for a Radio Access Network (RANS), a system comprising such a server, and a computer program executed on the server. The method, server, system and computer program are particularly useful for controlling communication networks in which user equipment may be registered in two or more different RANs simultaneously. Background technique [0002] In a communication network, such as a telecommunications network, different RANs may coexist in a given geographical environment. In particular, different RAN-based technologies may co-exist in a given geographic environment. Simultaneous deployment of different RAN technologies may be the result of competition among radio access providers, intentional offering of complementary technologies, or transition scenarios between different technologies or different generations ...
