Embodiment Construction

[0035] In the following description, specific details are set forth in order to provide a thorough understanding to those skilled in the art. However, well known elements may not have been shown or described in detail to avoid unnecessarily obscuring the disclosure. Accordingly, the description and drawings are to be regarded in an illustrative rather than a restrictive sense.

[0036] Example embodiments are provided for systems, devices, and methods useful in a video delivery pipeline. Metadata is written into the video data and transmitted along with the video data through the video delivery pipeline. Metadata may be useful, for example, to guide downstream devices in processing video data and / or to guide video playback on a display. The display may be, for example, a flat panel display (e.g., LCD, LED, OLED, high dynamic range, or plasma display) that may be provided in a television, computer monitor, laptop, cell phone, or handheld mobile device, etc., Or any other dis...

Abstract

Systems, apparatus and methods are provided for generating, delivering, processing and displaying video data to preserve the video creator's creative intent. Metadata which may be used to guide the processing and display of the video data is dynamically generated and embedded in the video data throughout a video delivery pipeline. The metadata may be embedded in the guard bits or least significant bits of chrominance channels of video data. Methods are provided for managing the encoding, delivery and decoding of the metadata to avoid unintentional communication of reserved words, minimize image artifacts which may result from overwriting least significant bits with metadata, prioritize delivery of metadata in the event of limited metadata bandwidth, and facilitate timely delivery of metadata to a downstream device.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority to US Priority Patent Application No. 61 / 306,900, filed February 22, 2010, which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety. technical field [0003] The present invention relates to systems, devices and methods for communicating video data and / or controlling the display of video data. Some embodiments provide systems, devices, and methods for communicating other data in a video data stream. Some embodiments provide systems, devices, and methods for generating, transmitting, processing, and displaying video data in order to preserve the creative intent of the video creator. Background technique [0004] FIG. 1 is a flowchart illustrating a conventional video delivery pipeline 100 at various stages from video capture to display of video content. At block 102 a sequence of video frames 101 is captured. Video frames 101 may be digitally captured (eg, by a digital camera) or com...
