Embodiment Construction

[0021] The subject matter of the embodiments of the invention disclosed herein is described with specificity to satisfy statutory requirements. However, the description itself is not intended to limit the scope of this patent. Rather, the inventors have contemplated that the claimed subject matter might also be embodied in other ways, so as to include different steps or steps similar to those described in this document, in connection with other present or future technologies The combination.

[0022] Embodiments of the present invention generally relate to various operations of identifying pending tasks for a search session and generating a collection of related pending tasks. These various operations may include: gleaning the user's search intent from navigational events the user has undertaken; extracting specific tasks from the search intent; and generating a collection of promoted and finalized supporting tasks. Typically, a user interacts with a search engine while cond...

Abstract

Computer-storage media, methods, and systems for improving the ability of a user to accomplish a task that is pending during a search session are provided. This pending task can be distilled by identifying a current searching intent associated with a recently submitted query and by determining which candidate tasks are most comparable to the current searching intent of a user. The candidate tasks are mined from a search history of the user by categorizing those navigation events that appear to share a semantically common concept. Upon performing a comparison, the candidate task that captures the user's true current searching intent is designated as the pending task. When a user invokes the pending task, a collection of elements that are associated with the pending task are dynamically organized into a sharable content page, thereby providing a collaborative experience that involves exposing the collection to contacts and accepting feedback therefrom.

Description

Background technique [0001] Currently, there are several services that provide a wide variety of utilities that assist users when searching the Internet for information. Typically, this information is delivered in the form of search results from a search engine operated by the service to a web browser located on the user's computing device. These search results are often similarly formatted within the search results page and fail to address and / or advance the underlying task that the user is seeking to accomplish. [0002] Users are increasingly searching to accomplish "tasks," such as reserving a table at a restaurant, renting a movie online, buying a book, or booking a trip. These tasks can be performed in association with various entities (eg, people, places, and things) or various actions (eg, buy, sell, rent, etc.). For example, during a search session, a user's pending tasks may be general in nature, such as planning a trip or ordering pizza. Alternatively, a task may...
