[0130] prepared as image 3 The coextrusion die shown generally in the coextrusion die utilizes such as Figure 7 Assemble a 4-shim repeating pattern of extrusion orifices shown generally. The thickness of the spacers in the repeating sequence was 4 mils for the spacers 70 connected to the first cavity, the second cavity and for the spacers not connected to either cavity (70a, 70b and 70c respectively) (0.102mm). Spacer 70 is formed of stainless steel with perforations cut by wired electrical discharge machining. The dispensing orifice 96a fed by the first cavity was cut to a height of 15 mils (0.381 mm). The dispensing orifice 96b fed by the second cavity was cut to a height of 5 mils (0.127mm). Aligning the extrusion orifices in a collinear alternating arrangement, the resulting dispensing surface 97 is as Figure 8 shown. The total width of the spacers installed is 15 cm.

Abstract

Disclosed is a polymeric layer having generally opposing first and second major surfaces including a series of openings extending between the first and second major surfaces. The polymer layer can be used, for example, as a component in personal care garments such as diapers and feminine hygiene products. They are also used in filtration (including liquid filtration) and acoustic applications.

Description

[0001] Cross references to related patent applications [0002] This application claims the benefit of US Provisional Patent Application 61 / 615,676, filed March 26, 2012, the disclosure of which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety. Background technique [0003] Macroporous perforated films are often used in vapor and liquid permeable applications, while microporous perforated films can be used in vapor permeable applications but not in liquid permeable applications. Macroporous perforated films are commonly used as components in personal care garments such as diapers and feminine hygiene products. Perforated membranes are also used in filtration and acoustic applications. [0004] Macroporous permeable membranes are often made by first making a continuous membrane and then subjecting the membrane to a perforation process. Mechanical perforation devices include intermeshing rolls, die punching or needle punching. The film may also be perforated using a perfo...
