Abstract

A vehicle lighting system is disclosed. The lighting system comprises a group of light sources having a plurality of sections. Each section has a proximity sensor configured to communicate a signal to control a portion of the plurality of sections. The controller communicates with the light source and the proximity sensor. The controller is operable to selectively activate a first portion of the set of light sources in response to a first proximity detection, and to activate a plurality of portions in response to a second proximity detection.

Description

[0001] Cross references to related applications [0002] This patent application is a partial continuation application of the US Patent Application No. 14 / 257,309, titled "Vehicle Reading Lamp with Low Intensity Light Setting" filed on April 21, 2014. The entire disclosure of the above application is here. Incorporated into this article by introduction. Technical field [0003] The present invention relates generally to vehicle lighting, and more specifically to directional interior vehicle lighting. Background technique [0004] Currently, some lighting devices require the user to interact with the outer lens in order to activate and deactivate the lighting device. One disadvantage of such a design is that the vehicle occupant usually has to rely on the sense of touch to locate the outer lens when in dark conditions. As a result, some vehicle occupants may become distracted by having to feel the position of the outer lens when they want to activate the lighting device. Therefore...
