Problems solved by technology

However, known catheter placement instruments typically require the use of two hands for inserting the guidewire and placing the catheter into the vasculature, which increases the risk of contamination, increases the risk of inadvertently damaging blood vessels due to involuntary tip movement , preventing continuous use of ultrasound from the point of skin penetration, vessel passage, lead insertion until the first distal end and tip of the catheter in the vessel are shielded, making the device less convenient to use

Embodiment Construction

[0041] refer to figure 1 , shows a perspective view of an embodiment of a catheter insertion device 100 including a catheter set 102 and an insertion set 104 . Insertion set 104 may be separated from catheter set 102 as catheter 106 is partially inserted into the patient's vasculature. The catheter set 102 also includes an extension line assembly 108 in fluid communication with the catheter 106 . Extension line assembly 108 may be connected to a fluid source or aspirator. Insertion set 104 includes a handle 110 that is initially connected to catheter set 102 and facilitates insertion of catheter 106 into the patient's vasculature.

[0042] refer to Figure 2A , shows an exploded view of the various components of catheter set 102 of catheter insertion device 100 . refer to Figure 2B , shows a partially transparent perspective view of the assembled catheter set 102 of the catheter insertion device 100 . At its proximal region, catheter set 102 includes an extension line a...

Abstract

A catheterization instrument is disclosed that enables single-handed catheterization into a patient's vasculature. The catheter insertion device includes a handle, a needle cannula partially within the handle, a guide wire partially within the handle and the needle cannula, and a first actuator coupled to the handle and guide wire. A first actuator is moveable in a proximal direction relative to the handle to move the guidewire in a distal direction away from the handle, and is moveable in a distal direction relative to the handle so that the The guidewire is moved in a proximal direction toward the handle. The catheter insertion device may also include a needle support that stabilizes the needle cannula during insertion of the needle cannula into the patient.
