6 results about "Staple line" patented technology

A staple line leak usually happens in the 3rd or 4th week after surgery, when a few staples pop out (usually for unknown reasons). This can allow gastric contents to leak out from the sleeve and into the abdominal cavity. Most of the time when this happens it results in a small fluid collection,...

Surgical instrument with linear and purse string suture staples

A surgical stapling instrument is configured to dissect tissue, apply a linear staple line along one side of the tissue dissection and apply a suture, such as a purse string suture, to the other side of the tissue dissection. The instrument comprises an elongate shaft, first and second jaws configured to open and close and a cutting element. The instrument includes a first row of staples in each of the first and second jaws having a suture extending therethrough and a second row of staples in the second jaw. A drive member is configured to translate distally through the end effector to dissect tissue with the cutting element, drive the second row of staples into the tissue on one side of the dissection and to apply the first row of staples and suture in combination to form a purse string suture on the other side of the tissue dissection.

Surgical stapler with illumination

A surgical instrument for treating a tubular organ includes a shaft assembly, a stapling assembly, a trocar, and one or more light sources. The stapling assembly is disposed at the distal end portion of the shaft assembly and includes a circumferential sidewall having a distal edge to define a stapling line. The trocar is operably movable relative to the stapling assembly along an axis of the stapling assembly between an extended position and a retracted position. The one or more light sources are used to emit light transmissible through the wall of the tubular organ. Thus, by detecting light transmitted through the wall of the tubular organ, a user of the surgical instrument can position the trocar, the distal edge of the stapling assembly, or both in the tubular organ.

Stapling surgical instruments and methods for operating stitching surgical instruments

This invention provides a surgical instrument for stapling and a method for using it. [Solution] The stapling surgical instrument includes a handle assembly, a shaft assembly, and a plurality of loading units having different staple line lengths. The handle assembly includes a control circuit having mounting sensing switches and a slider. The shaft assembly includes a sensing mechanism. Any loading unit is detachably mounted to the shaft assembly. The number of mounting sensing switches is less than the number of staple line lengths of the loading units. Mounting a loading unit drives the sensing mechanism to push the slider, which either activates any mounting sensing switch to generate a first signal or does not activate it to generate a second signal. The control circuit identifies whether a loading unit is unmounted or has a staple line length based on all combinations of all first or second signals.

The utility model relates to the field of wound suture, in particular to an interval type barb suture line and an interval type barb suture assembly. The interval type barb suture line comprises a plurality of barb sections and a plurality of smooth sections which are arranged at intervals in the extending direction. Wherein the lengths of the barb section and the smooth section are configured as follows: at least the middle part of the barb section is buried under the skin after the wound is sutured, and at least the middle part of the smooth section is exposed outside the skin. According to the utility model, at least most of the part of the barb suture line exposed outside the skin is smooth, so that the damage to the skin at the sutured part is weakened.

Surgical stapling instruments with reinforcement material

PCT designated stageWO2026135959A1Surgical staplesFiberStaple line
A buttress material for a surgical stapling instrument, the buttress material attachable to one or both of a cartridge jaw or an anvil jaw of the surgical stapling instrument and configured to reinforce the staple line and containing a bioactive glass material to enhance tissue healing. The buttress material can be impregnated with the bioactive glass or the bioactive glass can be weaved into the buttress material. The bioactive glass can be in a powder form applied to the buttress material or in a fiber form applied to the buttress material.

Surgical stapler with illumination

A surgical instrument for treating tubular organs includes a shaft assembly, a stapling assembly, a trocar, and one or more light sources. The stapling assembly is disposed at the distal end of the shaft assembly and includes a circumferential wall having a distal edge that defines a staple line. The trocar is operably movable relative to the stapling assembly along its axis between an extended position and a retracted position. One or more light sources are for emitting light that can penetrate the wall of the tubular organ. In this way, by detecting the light that has penetrated the wall of the tubular organ, the user of the surgical instrument can locate the trocar, the distal edge of the stapling assembly, or both within the tubular organ.
