Abstract

The modular electric continuously variable transmission includes a sun gear common module (60) and a sun gear common module (70), which are assembled to form a subassembly with a shiftable motor reducer ( 50) and the dual-module electric continuously variable transmission (10) of the electric continuously variable transmission subassembly (40). The sun common module (60) includes a first motor-generator (54), an input (80), and a primary and secondary planetary gear set each having a corresponding primary gear set Ring and secondary ring gears (96, 110), main and secondary frames (88, 102) and associated primary and secondary pinions (92, 106). The pinion gears (92, 106) are in meshing engagement with a single first common sun gear (84) non-rotatably coupled to the first motor-generator (54). The sun gear and ring gear common module (70) includes the second motor-generator (44), the input (174), the common sun gear (120) and the common ring gear (124) and the main planetary gear set and the second auxiliary planetary gear set .
