Problems solved by technology

[0003] However, integrating a grip sensor into an electronic device requires increased circuit complexity and manufacturing cost
In addition, the grip sensor may be installed such that one of the wires of the grip sensor may be connected to the radio frequency (RF) signal line of the antenna, which may cause the performance of the antenna to deteriorate

Abstract

The invention provides an electronic device and a grip recognition method thereof, particularly an electronic device for reducing the SAR of the electronic device and a grip recognition method thereof. The electronic device includes an antenna, a coupler, a processor electrically coupled to the antenna and the coupler, and a memory electrically coupled to the processor. The memory stores instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to detect a change of a transmit power value using the coupler during transmission of a radio signal through the antenna. The instructionsfurther cause the processor to determine whether the electronic device is being gripped based on the change of the transmit power value.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates to an electronic device and a grip recognition method for reducing a specific absorption rate (SAR) of the electronic device. Background technique [0002] High powered antennas may have a high Specific Absorption Rate (SAR), where SAR is a measure of the amount of radio frequency energy absorbed by the human body. Generally, according to relevant safety standards, SAR should be limited below a certain threshold. For example, if the SAR measured on an antenna of an electronic device is greater than a threshold specified by a safety standard, the electronic device must be programmed to operate the antenna at a limited power so that the electronic device can be considered safe for use by the user. However, operating the antenna continuously at reduced power also has disadvantages. One disadvantage may be that the electronic device may not have the maximum antenna range allowed by the antenna. Therefore, when the SAR of t...
