Embodiment approach

[0049] 1. A product comprising:

[0050] Closed layer

[0051] A substrate covering the closure layer, wherein the substrate has two opposite main surfaces;

[0052] A metal oxide layer covering the substrate, wherein the metal oxide layer includes a metal oxide, and wherein the metal oxide layer includes less than 40% by weight of a non-oxidized metal; and

[0053] A metal layer covering the metal oxide layer.

[0054] 2. The article of embodiment 1, wherein the metal layer adjoins the metal oxide layer.

[0055] 3. The article of any one of embodiments 1 to 2, wherein the metal layer is discontinuous or patterned.

[0056] 4. The article of embodiment 1, wherein the metal oxide layer is in direct contact with one opposite major surface of the substrate, and the metal layer is in direct contact with the other opposite major surface of the substrate.

[0057] 5. The article according to any one of embodiments 1 to 4, wherein the substrate is an absorbent substrate selected from foams, fabr...

Embodiment 1-3 and comparative example 1

[0095] At a pressure of 5 mtorr, silver was deposited on the urethane aviation foam using the sputtering process described above. Coating the PP netting with copper, magnesium or zinc according to the above method. Use 3M Super 77 multi-purpose adhesive to laminate netting with and without metal coating to silver-coated aerospace foam. The micro-current and log reduction characteristics were measured and recorded in Table 1.

Abstract

An article having an anti-microbial effect is provided. The article includes an occlusive layer; a substrate overlaying the occlusive layer, wherein the substrate having two opposing major surfaces; ametal oxide layer overlaying the substrate, wherein the metal oxide layer comprises a metal oxide and wherein the metal oxide layer comprises less than 40 wt.% non-oxidized metal; and a metal layer overlaying the metal oxide layer.

Description

Background technique [0001] The risk of infection by medical devices is particularly high in the medical field. Antimicrobial products or coatings are widely used in the medical world to prevent / reduce infections. For example, medical devices used by doctors, including orthopedic needles, pressure plates and implants, wound dressings, etc., must be constantly protected from infection. Metal ions having antimicrobial properties such as Ag, Au, Pt, Pd, Ir, Cu, Sn, Sb, Bi, and Zn are used as antimicrobial compounds. Among these metal ions, silver is known for its good biological activity. Various silver salts, complexes and colloids have been used to prevent and control infections. Summary of the invention [0002] Although soluble salts of silver have currently been used to prevent microbial infections, they do not provide long-term release of silver ions due to the loss caused by the removal or complexation of free silver ions. They must be reapplied periodically to solve this...
