Abstract

The invention provides a message processing method and a network device. The network device comprises an entry chip, an exit chip, a switching chip and a computing device. The computing device receives an INT (In-band Network Telemetry) message sent by the chip and computes time difference values of exit time information and entry time information contained in first metadata, second metadata and third metadata in the INT message, adds up the time difference values obtained through computing to obtain residence time of the INT message in the network device, computes the exit time information ofthe INT message in the network device according to the residence time, modifies the exit time information in the first metadata into the computed exit time information, deletes the second metadata and the third metadata to obtain the modified INT message and forwards the modified INT message through the exit chip. Even if time of the chips in the network device is asynchronous, the message hop latency of the network device also can be accurately computed.
