The takeover method comprises the steps of monitoring whether operation of a server is abnormal or not; and if so, calling the out-of-band network management module to restart the operating system of the server, and triggering a network takeover function of the out-of-band network management module to take over the IP address of the in-band network management module. When the system operates normally, the BMC network is in a silent state and is only presented as a system network in centralized management, a user can perform machine state detection and service operation management and control through the same IP, operation and maintenance management of a server network is facilitated, and the management cost is reduced; andmeanwhile, when the in-band network fails, the BMC automatically takes over the IP address, so that the problem that a faulty machine cannot be recovered through remote management is solved, and an operator can conveniently recover the operating system through the BMC.
