Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to a method, an electronic device, and a computer program product for establishing a metadata index. The method disclosed herein comprises: generating a primary index for indexing metadata items; inserting a first indication into the primary index, wherein the first indication is used for indicating the position of the metadata item in the metadata set;generating a secondary index for indexing the primary index set; and inserting a second indication into the secondary index, wherein the second indication to indicate a set of locations of the set ofmetadata. In this way, the embodiment of the invention can establish an index structure capable of indicating the position of the metadata item so as to quickly determine the position of the metadataitem.
