[0018] The techniques described herein convert platform-specific scene files produced by a number of different design platforms into platform-independent scene files configured in an intermediate format. The intermediate format includes a human-readable format that provides a written description of the content in the three-dimensional scene template. The platform-independent scene file can be provided to any of a number of different consumption platforms so that the data in the intermediate format can be interpreted and a three-dimensional scene template can be reconstructed. Once recreated, the 3D scene template provides the user with a starting point for creating a 3D scene experience (eg, the user can continue to add content to create and customize the scene for a specific purpose).
