Embodiment Construction

[0025] As shown in FIG. 1 , a faucet (not shown) stem 10 includes an outer stem body 12 and an axially extending shaft 14 . The lower end 16 of the outer rod body 12 is provided with an external thread screwed into the faucet body (not shown). A first end 18 of the shaft 14 closest to the lower end 16 is provided with a large diameter head 20 . The opposite second end 22 of the shaft 14 is provided with a plurality of circumferentially spaced longitudinally extending ribs 24 . Disc washer 26 is attached to head 20 by screws 28 . A handle (not shown) is attached to the rib 24 of the second end 22 to facilitate manual rotation of the shaft 14 in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction to open and close the faucet.

[0026] FIG. 2 illustrates an embodiment of a washer assembly 30 and a typical faucet insert 32 of the present invention. The shape of the insert 32 is a short cylindrical tube 34, and the outer circumference of the tube 34 near the upper end is provided with a f...

Abstract

A washer assembly includes a resilient sealing member having a cylindrical wall with a first axis end and an opposite second axial end. A wall extends radially inward from first axial end. The member is seated in a housing having a base and a skirt extending axially from the base. The skirt extends axially beyond the second axial end of the member and terminates in an annular surface having an inner diameter which is substantially radially co-terminus with an outer diameter of the second axial end.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a washer assembly, and more particularly, but not exclusively, to a washer assembly for domestic water taps. Background technique [0002] A typical faucet used in the United States and Asia consists of a faucet head threaded to a faucet body and a faucet body that includes a waterway with an inlet, an outlet, and a gasket seat therebetween. The shaft is held within the head by threads such that the shaft moves axially up and down within the faucet body by rotation in opposite directions. The washer assembly typically includes a disc of resilient material that is secured to the end of the shaft by screws. Therefore, the washer assembly rotates with the shaft. The washer seat is provided as a fixed separate machined insert with a web extending through the interior of the faucet body. The insert is generally cylindrical with a radially extending flange at the upper end for supporting the insert within the faucet body. ...
