Various embodiments disclosed herein provide for a method for configuring a
User Equipment (UE) to be in a
long sleep mode by modifying either the
Discontinuous Reception (DRX) cycle in the Secondary Cells or by using Physical Downlink
Control Channel (PDCCH) skipping. Once in the
long sleep, the UE can be provided with an indication via the
Primary Cell to start monitoring the PDCCH. If PDCCH skipping is used, the UE can be provided with an indication that would force the UE to monitor PDCCH, and the UE could be provided with an indication that would result in an “early” start of the
Active Time if the DRX configuration was used. The network sends an indication to ensure secondary
cell group to minimize PDCCH monitoring when a traffic is not present but to quickly restart PDCCH monitoring in the secondary
cell group when traffic is present.
