The first surface of the reservoir housing is placed into contact with the lintel within the structure of the masonry wall. The protective oil is released onto the lintel along the contact interface. The protective oil coats the lintel, therein inhibiting oxidation of the lintel.

First a wall is built using bricks or panels and a lintel is located on top of the wall. The lintel formed from an elongate sheet of metal bent with at least three or four bends parallel to a long edge of the sheet thereby forming four or five faces. These include a first face which is orthogonal to a first vertical surface of the wall and a second face for engaging an upper portion of the first vertical surface. There is also a third face for engaging an upper surface of the wall and a fourth face for engaging an upper portion of a second vertical surface of the wall. The fifth face, if present, fifth face extends from a lower edge of the fourth face and is orthogonal to the second vertical surface of the wall. Once in place, the lintel is fixed to the wall and floor joists are fixed on the first (and fifth) face.
