Embodiment Construction

[0031] FIG. 1 is a circuit diagram of a known voltage converter CNV. The voltage converter CNV is built using cascaded (four in this example) charge pumps CHGPMP1-CHGPMP4. The first charge pump CHGPMP1 includes a first switch SW1 controlled with a first switch clock signal s1, a first charge pump capacitor C1, and a first buffer BF1 with an input controlled with a first buffer clock signal d1. The output terminal of the first buffer BF1 is connected to the first terminal of the first charge pump capacitor C1. A second terminal of the first charge pump capacitor C1 is coupled to the input terminal IP of the voltage converter CNV through the first switch SW1. The input voltage U is provided between the input terminal IP and the ground reference terminal GND i , and is delivered by the voltage source VS. A common connection point n1 of the first charge pump capacitor C1 and the first switch SW1 forms an output terminal of the first charge pump CHGPMP1. The second, third and f...

Abstract

An integrated circuit (IC) is attached to a disc for writing/reading information. The IC comprises: a light sensor (SNS), a further light sensor (SNSF), detection means (DT), a microprocessor (uP), non-volatile memory means (MM) such as an EEPROM, an RF-oscillator (RFosc), voltage conversion means (CNV), and a standby circuit (SB). The voltage conversion means (CNV) comprises a cascade of charge pumps. A conventional charge pump does not function properly if the input voltage (Ui) is only periodically present during relatively short time periods. During the presence of the input voltage (Ui), the switches in the charge pumps are kept in a holding state. The supply voltage (VMM) is only delivered by the conversion means (CNV) when enough energy has been stored in the capacitors of the charge pumps. The clock signal of the microprocessor (uP) is held also when the input voltage (Ui) is absent, and a switch (SBF) of the standby circuit (SB) is non-conducting. Therefore, the supply voltage VuP remains present (because of the presence of a buffer capacitor (CBF)) in the absence of the input voltage (Ui). The IC may be used as a copyright protection system in a CD player, where access information (AI) is processed by the microprocessor (uP) and stored in the memory means (MM).

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to an electronic circuit comprising conversion means for converting an input voltage into an output voltage, comprising at least a first energy storage means and a second energy storage means and switching means for the control of a clock signal The energy storage devices are periodically coupled to each other to store energy in the energy storage devices and to transfer at least a portion of the stored energy between the devices. Background technique [0002] Such electronic circuits are generally known in the prior art. The energy storage means can be constructed by means of coils, in which case the energy storage takes place by magnetic flux in the coils, and by means of capacitors, in which case the energy storage takes place by charging the capacitors. The value of the output voltage can be higher as well as lower than the value of the input voltage. In the case of a boost, a good approach is to use a so-called charge pump....
