The feeding hopper 12 includes a large number of feeding ports 16 positioned and evenly distributed around the perimeter of the hopper 12 to achieve balance of the bird feeder 10 . The feeding hopper 12 also includes a removable top 18 to allow the hopper 12 to be refilled with bird food. A portion of the housing 14 forms a pan 20 surrounding the feeding hopper 12 and below the feeding port 16 . The pan 20 includes a peripheral edge 22 that serves as a perch for feeding birds and also serves to catch seed falling out of the feeding port 16 to reduce spillage losses.

A bird feeder provides a feed hopper constructed concentrically around a vertical central axis and having a plurality of feeding ports evenly distributed around the central axis, and a cable reel mounted to the feed hopper and adapted to store and provide a cable for supporting the bird feeder along the central axis.
