Embodiment 1

[0135] Example 1: Experimental Test

[0136] test

[0137] The purpose of this test is to evaluate the in vitro effectiveness of the combination of soluble calcium and phosphate. Testing was conducted at the University of Indiana. Enamel samples (3x3x3mm diameter windows) were taken from extracted human teeth, mounted on acrylic rods. Enamel surfaces were ground and polished with alumina slurry, rinsed with deionized water, and air-dried. The enamel specimens were then artificially injured by soaking for 96 hours in partially saturated HAP acid buffer, adjusted to pH 5, consisting of 0.1 mM lactic acid and 0.2 wt% Carbopol C907. Each specimen was subjected to a Vickers diamond with a load of 200 g for 15 seconds to make 4 baseline indentations, and the indentation length must be within the range of 25-45 μm. Enamel specimens (N=18 / treatment) were then passed through a series of solutions on a daily basis for repeated periods of 8 days. Artificial saliva, acid challenge ...

Abstract

Oral products for the improved mineralization / remineralization of teeth are provided. In an embodiment, the present disclosure provides an oral product comprising a calcium salt, a phosphate salt, a sodium salt and a potassium salt. For example, the molar ratio of the sodium salt to the potassium salt ranges from about 3 to about 4.

Description

[0001] priority [0002] This application claims priority to US Provisional Patent Application Serial No. 60 / 765,289, filed February 3, 2006, the entire disclosure of which is hereby incorporated herein. Background of the invention [0003] The present disclosure relates generally to dental care. More specifically, the present disclosure relates to oral care products that improve mineralization / remineralization of teeth. [0004] The enamel and dentin in teeth are mainly composed of calcium phosphate in the form of calcium hydroxyapatite. The material is highly insoluble at the neutral pH level of saliva, but readily dissolves in acidic media. Thus, when a tooth is exposed to the acids produced during bacterial glycolysis of carbohydrates, areas of damage or demineralization initially appear beneath the surface of intact enamel because the outer edges are more resistant to acid. Dental caries starts from these subsurface lesions, which form before cavities can even be found...
