Embodiment approach

[0043]According to an example embodiment of the present invention, the belt reinforcement package 40 includes a pair of working belt layers 41 , 42 . The belt layer 41 is located radially inwardly with respect to the belt layer 42 . The belt layer 41 has a belt width approximately equal to the tread arc width. Preferably, the belt width of the belt 41 is exactly equal to the tread camber. The fold angle of the belt 41 is between about 16 and 30 degrees, preferably has a leftward orientation, and more preferably between about 19 and about 25 degrees. Belt knuckles are measured relative to the circumferential direction. The belt 41 is preferably made of steel with a 4+3×0.35 structure. The % elongation at 10% load at break may be from about 0.18 to about 0.26, more preferably greater than 0.2. The % elongation is measured on cords taken from vulcanized tires. For cord blanks, the % elongation at 10% load at break may be from about 0.2% to about 0.27%.

Abstract

A pneumatic tire is described. The tire comprises a tread, a carcass and a belt structure interposed between the carcass and the tread, the belt structure comprising a pair of working belts with the angle of the working belts ranging of from 15 to 30 degrees with respect to the circumferential direction of the tire. The belt structure further comprises a zigzag belt structure located radially between the working belts, wherein the zigzag belt structure is formed of at least two layers of cords interwoven together from a strip of rubber reinforced with one or more cords, wherein the strip is layed up in a first zigzag winding extending between a first lateral belt edge and a second lateral belt edge in an at least substantially zigzag or sine wavelength having a first amplitude (W1) in a first direction followed by a second amplitude (W2) in the opposite direction of the first amplitude, and wherein the strip is layed up in a second zigzag winding extending between the first lateral belt edge and the second lateral belt edge; in an at least substantially zigzag or sine wavelength having a first amplitude (W2) followed by a second amplitude (W1).

Description

[0001] This application claims priority to US Provisional Application No. 61 / 139,242, filed December 19, 2008, which is incorporated herein by reference. technical field [0002] The present invention relates to a pneumatic tire having a carcass and belt reinforcement, and more particularly, the present invention relates to a radial tire for use in aircraft, truck and other heavy duty applications. Background technique [0003] In heavily loaded tires such as truck tires or aircraft tires, serrated belts have been used for belt wrap. The serrated belt eliminates the exposed belt ends of the shoulders. figure 1 An exemplary portion of a tire with a zigzag belt 5 is shown. The advantage of the serrated belt is that there is no exposed belt edge near the shoulders, which greatly improves tire durability. The disadvantage of the zigzag belt is that, on the edges near the shoulders, there are overlapping layers. In some areas, there are too many layers, eg typically 4 layers o...
