Abstract

A base station 240 resets the actuator mechanism in an injection device from its actuated state to its unactuated state so that further actuation of the actuator mechanism can take place. Before further use of the device, the used needle assembly is replaced by a new needle assembly 220. Preferably, the needle assembly is driven by a motor (216, figure 7) powered by a rechargeable battery (218, figure 7), but a drive spring (130, figure 2a) may be used. The base station typically includes a charger (248, figure 7) to replenish the battery. Upon connection to the base station, a controller (217, figure 7) in the injection device operates the motor in reverse to reset the actuator mechanism. A trigger (102, figure 1a) is also reset.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to an injection system for use in particular in conjunction with a reusable injection device having a syringe, extending the syringe, discharging the contents of the syringe and subsequently expelling the contents completely The syringe is then automatically retracted. Background technique [0002] It is known to use automatic injection devices, also known as autoinjectors, for subcutaneous injections, especially for self-delivery of pharmacological products by patients at home. One known feature of autoinjectors is that the autoinjection is performed by extending the needle of the syringe from the body of the autoinjector, then delivering the pharmacological product through the needle of the syringe and retracting the syringe. It would be very useful for a patient to be able to take self-administered injections without the assistance of medical personnel, for example in an emergency situation or on a routine basis of the...
