Abstract

The invention relates to a method for shallow-water, temperature-raising and water-saving irrigation of paddy fields in cold areas in an early original field period, which is applicable to paddy fields in the northeast and north of China. The method is to carry out shallow irrigation at nightfall every day from a seedling stage after the rice seedlings are transplanted to a tillering stage. The key point of the shallow-water and temperature-raising irrigation method lies in the control over the depth of water layers during daytime and at night, namely the water layer is kept as thin as possible during daytime for absorbing solar radiation, raising temperature of the soil and promoting rooting of the rice seedlings and is kept at a proper depth at night to prevent the loss of ground surface heat. Experiments show that: the paddy fields adopting shallow-water and temperature-raising irrigation save about 36.72 to 46.38 percent of water than paddy fields irrigated by the conventional method; and at the same time, the rice adopts shallow-water and temperature-raising irrigation has bigger number of plants per hole, number of ears per hole, number of effective ears per plant and numberof grain per ear than rice adopting conventional irrigation, and thus, the yield of the rice is high. Field experiments show that the shallow-water and temperature-raising irrigation method can increase yield by 8.25 to 13.15 percent compared with the conventional irrigation method.
