Abstract

A pump unit is provided with: a drive shaft (4) which is mounted such that it can rotate in a pump body (3) in order to operate both a piston pump which can feed a fuel, preferably diesel fuel, to an internal combustion engine, and a gear pump (2) which can feed the fuel to the piston pump; an annular gasket (7) arranged between the pump body (3) and the drive shaft (4) for separating, in a fluid-tight manner, two chambers (8, 9) to which the fuel is fed; and a reinforcing element (26) which is mounted inside one of the chambers (8, 9) in order to at least limit the deformation of the gasket (7) resulting from the pressure of the fuel.
