Abstract

A device monitoring system for a communication network, wherein an SNMP monitoring unit obtains, from a group of devices to be monitored, state information for each device thereof so as to monitor the state of each device. A command monitoring unit uses a monitoring command to obtain the state information for each of the devices. A monitoring management unit checks the state of monitoring by the SNMP monitoring unit for each device, and if there is a device for which acquisition of state information therefor has failed, the monitoring management unit sets that device as a new monitoring target and uses the command monitoring unit to transmit the monitoring command. Monitoring results are updated with the state information that is obtained by means of the command, and the reliability of fault monitoring is improved as a result.
