Abstract

The present invention provides a technique to ensure that a service or session is carried in a consistent manner on a Link Aggregation Group (LAG). Configure the mapping from service IDs (such as session IDs) to links independently on both sides of the LAG. The assignment of service IDs to links is stored in a well-defined format (eg, an assignment table). A summary is then prepared based on this assignment table. The digests are exchanged between the two sides of the LAG. If there is a mismatch between digests, the service is transported over a predefined agreed-upon default link if consistency must be enforced for that particular service. Additionally, digest exchanges allow validation of the configuration to check that all services to be delivered are configured on both sides.

Description

technical field [0001] This disclosure relates generally to link aggregation, and more particularly to techniques for ensuring consistency in link aggregation. The techniques may be implemented as a method, a computer program product, or a network node. Background technique [0002] Link aggregation is widely used to aggregate together multiple links between a pair of nodes to enable transmission of user data on each link participating in a Link Aggregation Group (LAG) (see for example IEEE 802.1AX). Aggregating multiple network connections in this way can increase throughput beyond what a single link can support, and / or can be used to provide redundancy in case one of the links fails. The "Distributed Resilient Network Interconnection" (DRNI) project (see IEEE 802.1AXbq / D0.4) specifies extensions to link aggregation such that on network interfaces involving two networks (1001, 1002), even Link aggregation can be used on network interfaces between more than two nodes (for ...
