Embodiment Construction

[0014] Referring to the above-mentioned figures, "1" denotes a single printhead provided with a plurality of nozzles 11 whose function is to cause the discharge of tiny droplets of ink on command. In this example, the printhead 1 is an ink recirculating printhead of the type in which ink flows continuously "in front" of the nozzles 11 of the printhead and through preselected Nozzles execute ink ejection on specific instructions independently of other nozzles.

[0015] A printhead 1 is considered to be part of a printing unit 2 that consists of one or more printheads 1 with ink recirculation and forms a "ribbon", or is of a length appropriate to the size to be printed . The print heads making up the "ribbon" or printing unit 2 work with the same ink, ie in the same colour.

[0016] The printhead 1 forming said "ribbon" is supplied by an ink supply system comprising: an ink supply-dispensing line, indicated generally by the numeral 3, and an ink recirculation line 4 .

Abstract

A supply system for an Inkjet printer of a type comprising at least one printing unit made up of one or more printing heads (1) with ink recirculation, each of which is equipped with one or more nozzles (11) for at least one colour. The system comprises: - a line for supply-distribution (3) of the ink and that originates from a reservoir (5), has a plurality of short connecting branches (30) for supplying the said print heads (1) and empties into the same reservoir (5); - a line for recirculation (4) of the ink and made up of a plurality of short channels (40) originating from the said print heads (1) and converging into a collection manifold (41), which empties into the said reservoir (5). First and second means provide for producing the circulation of the ink, in the supply-distribution line (3) and in the recirculation line (4) comprising the collection manifold (41), respectively. A control means is provided to control the pressure in the supply- distribution line (3) and particularly in the distribution tube (31). An additional control means controls the pressure and circulation in the recirculation line (4) comprising the said collection manifold (41).

Description

technical field [0001] The subject of the invention is a supply system for a printer using ink jets, commonly known as an inkjet printer. In particular, but not exclusively, the supply system finds application in supplying inkjet printers using inks with a relatively high solids content consisting essentially of pigments reduced to fine particles. Background technique [0002] The nature of such inks, consisting of a suspension of finely divided solids in a liquid, is the source of the main problem that the present invention seeks to solve. Said problems include the possibility of settling of solid parts which naturally tend to separate from the liquid in which they are suspended. This phenomenon has two main negative effects: it changes the physicochemical properties of the suspension, thereby affecting the quality of inkjet printing, and it can lead to clogging of the printhead nozzles. [0003] Document US2010 / 0039460 describes an example of prior art relating to ink su...
