A piezoelectric device for an ink jet print head that has a greater displacement at a low drive voltage. The ink-jet recording head includes a vibration plate, on which is mounted one or more piezoelectric devices that change the volumes of pressure chambers upon application of a voltage. The device is mounted at least on one face of a pressure chamber substrate that is to be filled with ink. Such piezoelectric device includes a second piezoelectric layer having a piezoelectric constant g of a constant value or higher; and a first piezoelectric layer having a dielectric constant of a specific value or higher. Since the piezoelectric constant d of the piezoelectric device correlates with the product of the largest piezoelectric constant g and the largest dielectric device of the piezoelectric devices, a piezoelectric constant d larger than in the conventional case, i.e., having a greater displacement, can be obtained.

A water-based ink for inkjet printing comprising a water dispersion of vinyl polymer particles prepared by containing a pigment in a vinyl polymer prepared by copolymerizing a monomer mixture comprising (a) a salt-forming group-containing monomer, (b) a macromer, and (c) a monomer copolymerizable with the salt-forming group-containing monomer and the macromer; and a process for preparing a water-based ink for inkjet printing comprising a water dispersion of vinyl polymer particles prepared by containing a pigment in a vinyl polymer, comprising dissolving in an organic solvent a vinyl polymer prepared by copolymerizing a monomer mixture comprising (a) a salt-forming group-containing monomer, (b) a macromer, and (c) a monomer copolymerizable with the salt-forming group-containing monomer and the macromer; adding a pigment to the resulting solution; pre-kneading the mixture; thereafter adding a neutralizing agent and water and kneading the mixture, to give an oil-in-water dispersion; and distilling off the organic solvent from the resulting kneaded product.

The present invention is directed to radiation curable and jettable ink compositions and particularly to such compositions which exhibit enhanced elongation, when cured at low doses, and are advantageously used, for example, in digital inkjet printing. The compositions include a polyfunctional component and a monofunctional monomer, and may optionally include an additional monofuctional component and/or chain transfer agent. The compositions have a viscosity at 25° C. of not greater than about 70 cP and are radiation curable to form a cured ink having an elongation of between about 40 and about 150%. A first printing unit for forming a front image on one surface and a second printing unit forming a back image on the other surface are respectively constructed with two stages of printing heads. Solid free form fabrication techniques such as fused deposition modeling and three-dimensional printing are used to create a dental restoration. Three-dimensional printing comprises inkjet printing a binder into selected areas of sequentially deposited layers of powder. Each layer is created by spreading a thin layer of powder over the surface of a powder bed. Instructions for each layer may be derived directly from a CAD representation of the restoration. The area to be printed is obtained by computing the area of intersection between the desired plane and the CAD representation of the object. All the layers required for an aesthetically sound restoration can be deposited concurrently slice after slice and sintered/cured simultaneously. The amount of green body oversize is equivalent to the amount of shrinkage which occurs during sintering or curing. While the layers become hardened or at least partially hardened as each of the layers is laid down, once the desired final shaped configuration is achieved and the layering process is complete, in some applications it may be desirable that the form and its contents be heated or cured at a suitably selected temperature to further promote binding of the powder particles.

A printing method includes steps of applying an ink-receptive coating to a substrate; printing an actinic radiation-curable ink jet ink over the coating; and curing the printed ink jet ink. An article printed by the method has a ink-receptive coating layer with a cured print. An apparatus for carrying out the method includes a coating station at which the ink-receptive coating is applied to a substrate, an ink jet printhead at which the energy-curable ink jet ink is applied, and a source of actinic radiation for curing the applied ink. A printing apparatus, having a housing in which a thermal transfer printhead station and an ink jet printhead station are mounted, is used for printing indica on a medium, such as tickets, tags and the like. The thermal transfer printhead station is used for printing a monochrome colored indicia on the print medium and the ink jet printhead station is used for printing a single monochrome colored indicia or a plurality of monochrome colored indicia on the print medium. A decoupling station is mounted between the thermal transfer printhead station and the ink jet printhead station for accumulating print medium therein. A sensor is associated with the decoupling station for sensing the amount of print medium accumulated therein. In use, the print medium is passed through the thermal transfer printhead station and a monochrome colored indicia is printed thereon. Thereafter, the print medium is accumulated in the decoupling station and when a predetermined amount of print medium is accumulated therein, the print medium is passed to the ink jet printhead station and a plurality of monochrome colored indicia may be printed thereon or a single monochrome colored indicia is printed thereon. The printed-on medium is thereafter ejected from the printing apparatus. A die cutting or severing structure may be provided for die cutting or severing the print medium.

Ammunition, such as shotshells used in waterfowl hunting, have indicia applied to substantially all of the external surface to reduce glare normally a problem in conventional ammunition. In the case of further intermediate layers, the least adhesion of the laminated layers between one another in the laminate is that between temporary substrate material and adjacent layer.After film formation, the recording material according to the invention is particularly suitable for outdoor applications but also for transfer printing, for example on textiles.
