Web processing device and web processing method

The present invention relates to a web processing device, comprising a plurality of pads Pi revolving around a axis X1, a cutter 30 for cutting a continuous web W, and a plurality of anvils Ai for receiving the cutter 30. The pads Pi receive the continuous web W, and the cutter 30 cuts the continuous web W into a cut-off web W2 together with the anvil Ai positioned at a first relative level L1. The pad Pi revolves around the axis X1 while changing an attitude of the pad Pi by turning about a line extending from the first axis toward the pad Pi, thereby carrying the cut-off web W2 while changing an attitude of the cut-off web W2. When the pad Pi changes its attitude, the anvil Ai relatively moves to a second relative level L2 so as not to hinder the pad Pi changing its attitude.

Automated banking machine with self auditing capabilities and system

An automated banking machine (10) identifies and stores in storage areas documents such as currency bills deposited by a user. The machine selectively recovers such documents from storage areas and dispenses them. The machine includes a central transport (70) wherein documents deposited in a stack are unstacked, oriented and identified. Such documents are then routed to storage areas in canisters (92, 94, 96, 98). Documents in the storage areas are selectively picked therefrom and delivered to a user through an input / output area (50) of the machine. Each canister includes a memory (626) which holds information concerning the number and type of documents housed in the canister as well as other information concerning the hardware and software resident on the canister. The memory also includes data representative of individuals responsible for loading and transporting the canister. The machine conducts self-auditing activities to verify that the documents held in the storage areas correspond to the information stored in memory and indicate discrepancies.

System and method for improved registration performance

An apparatus and method for advancing a receiver into registered relationship with a moving image-bearing member. A motor is provided that is responsive to motor drive pulses. A drive member engages the receiver, and a drive coupling connects the drive member and the motor. An encoder generates encoder pulses that correspond with movement of the image-bearing member. A pulse generator generates motor drive pulses in response to the encoder pulses to accelerate the receiver to a speed approximately equal to the speed of the image-bearing member speed. A timer determines an amount of delay time between detection of the receiver by an in-track sensor and the beginning of a subsequent movement of the motor. A delay mechanism delays the acceleration of the receiver to the image-bearing member speed by the amount of delay time.

A system to determine the presence and width of a media within a printing system is disclosed which includes a pair of adjustable media guides is provided about a carriage and is axially spaced apart along the length of the carriage. The guides may be manipulated along a horizontal axis in a sliding, synchronized manner and such that the center line of media is maintained along the centerline of the print station. A sensor is provided and affixed to the carriage, the sensor being operable for emitting an optical signal through an aperture located in the carriage. At least one of the guides includes an obstruction which may protrude into the path of the optical signal at defined locations. As the guides move about the horizontal axis, the obstruction may block or otherwise interrupt the optical signal, thereby signaling the sensor and the printer of the media's presence and width.

Paper-feeding apparatus and method of feeding paper

A paper-feeding apparatus is used for feeding print medium from a paper cassette. The paper cassette holds a stack of print paper therein. The feeding roller is disposed close to a forward end of the paper cassette. The feeding roller engages a top page of the stack of print paper to feed the top page from the paper cassette to a printing area. The paper separator engages the feeding roller to cooperate with the feeding roller to separate the top page from the stack of print paper. The paper-positioning member is, for example, an arm. When the feeding roller is not feeding the print medium, the arm pushes back the forward ends of pages of print medium toward the rear end of the paper cassette, thereby aligning the forward ends of the pages of the stack of print paper. The paper feeding apparatus may further have an urging member, e.g., a spring, which urges the paper separator against the feeding roller, and an urging-force-changing member, e.g., a cam that changes an urging force of the urging member. When the cam rotates to a high-pressure position, the cam pushes the spring to cause the spring to urge the medium separator against the feeding roller with a larger force. When the cam rotates to a low-pressure position, the cam pushes the spring to cause the spring to urge the medium separator against the feeding roller with a smaller force.

Vacuum based pill singulator and counter based thereon

A singulating disc, carried by a housing, has a plurality of openings around its periphery. The disc rotates vertically through a pickup chamber of a hopper carried by the housing. A vacuum is pulled through the openings by a pump which is connected to the disc. Items are placed in the hopper and, via gravity, fall to the bottom of the hopper where they contact the periphery of the rotating disc. The vacuum at the openings attaches an item and holds it while the disc rotates. At the top of the disc's rotation, a diverter directs the item into a path depending on the results of a fragment detection and / or counting mechanism. Items that are allowed to pass by the diverter are scraped off the disc into another path by a scraper. Negative pressure is used to singulate and count a multitude of sizes and shapes of items with no calibration. Retractable paddles, a vacuum management system, and RFID tags may be incorporated. The paddles aid in the pickup and agitation of the items while the vacuum management system conserves the vacuum capacity necessary to pickup and singulate items. The RFID tags may contain information such as the number of items left in the hopper, a par level for that item, an expiration date, among others. Because of the rules governing abstracts, this abstract should not be used to construe the claims.

Sheet material information-detecting apparatus

A sheet material information-detecting apparatus is provided which is capable of detecting the type of a sheet material even if the sheet material is anisotropic. When recording paper sheet P is fed, feed rollers 1a and 1b are moved to narrow the nip of the rollers and front edge of recording paper sheet is pushed thereto to correct the oblique feed. Thereafter, external force is applied to recording paper sheet P by external force applying member 2. A signal based on the external force is detected by signal detecting means 3, and sheet material information-acquiring means 5 identify the type of the recording paper sheet. Owing to the oblique feed correction, the type of the sheet material can be identified precisely even if the sheet material is anisotropic.
