A duplexer is an electronic device that allows bi-directional (duplex) communication over a single path. In radar and radio communications systems, it isolates the receiver from the transmitter while permitting them to share a common antenna. Most radio repeater systems include a duplexer. Duplexers can be based on frequency (often a waveguide filter), polarization (such as an orthomode transducer), or timing (as is typical in radar).

Piezoelectric resonator, filter, and duplexer

A piezoelectric resonator of the present invention is structured such that on a substrate 5 having a cavity 4 formed therein, a lower electrode 3, a piezoelectric body 1, a spurious component control layer 16, and an upper electrode 2 are formed in this order from bottom up. The spurious component control layer 16 is a layer for controlling a spurious frequency, and composed of, for example, a metallic material, a dielectric material, or a piezo electric material. By additionally providing the spurious component control layer 16, it is made possible to cause variation of the spurious frequency due to unwanted variation to become greater than variation in resonance frequency of the main resonance of the piezoelectric resonator. Thus, it is possible to realize a piezoelectric resonator having an admittance frequency response where no spurious component occurs between resonance frequency fr and antiresonance frequency fa.

Duplexer with extended functionality

A duplexer has an asymmetrical antenna port and a symmetrical reception output, and therefore can be interconnected (without any intermediate stages) to an amplifier with a differential input. A reception bandpass filter is arranged in the reception path of the duplexer. The reception bandpass filter can have the functionality of a balun. The transmission input of the duplexer can be designed symmetrically, in which case a transmission bandpass filter arranged in the transmission path should be designed symmetrically on the input side. The impedance of the antenna port of the duplexer can differ from the impedance of the reception output or the transmission input. No intermediate stages (such as a balun or—in cases of impedances that differ between the duplexer and its corresponding amplifier—an impedance transformer) are required between the duplexer and the amplifier that is interconnected (whether before or after) in the transmission or reception path.
