A media content manager residing at a user premises having a tuner coupled to at least one media source operable to selectively receive at least one media stream of at least one type of media content. The media content manager also including a media processor coupled to the tuner and operable to receive the at least one media stream and convert the media stream to a predetermined data format, the at least one media stream comprising metadata. Additionally, the media content manages has a media manager coupled to the media processor and operable to receive the at least one media stream in the predetermined data format and direct the media stream to a selected media player device coupled to the media processor. Furthermore, the media content manager includes a storage device coupled to the media manager and operable to receive and store the at least one media stream in the predetermined data format.

A tuning state generation (TSG) controller determines whether a detected signal level matches a given value. If the detected signal level does not match the given value, the TSG controller selects an initial preset tuning state from a pre-established trajectory corresponding to a pre-identified operating condition that best matches a current operating condition. The TSG logic forwards the initial preset tuning state to the antenna tuner to trigger impedance transformation. Following generation of the initial preset tuning state, the controller receives an updated detected signal level. If the updated detected signal level fails to match the given value, the controller generates an incremental tuning state that is interpolated between the initial and a final preset tuning states.

A highly integrated terrestrial and cable tuner for receiving digital and analog television signals is disclosed. A method and system for reliably returning to a traffic channel in a wireless communications system having at least one communication channel, after performing E911 GPS or other types of signal measurements is provided. A communications link is established using a device in the communications system configured to establish communication over the communication channel, which also includes a processor and a tuner. Communication is based upon receiving a first radio frequency (RF) signal including data frames. The method includes tuning to receive a second RF signal, which action interrupts reception of the first RF signal. Communication over the communication channel is maintained during the interruption. The method also includes processing data frames during the tuning, updating a signal search space associated with the first RF signal during processing, and searching for the first RF signal within the updated search space, so that the first RF signal is then re-acquired.

A radio receiver includes a voice-only detection mechanism that detects when the current radio station is transmitting mostly voice, and that changes the function of the receiver depending on whether or not the current radio station is transmitting mostly voice. In a first embodiment, the radio receiver mutes its audio output when the voice-only detection mechanism detects a voice broadcast, or mutes its audio output when the voice-only detection mechanism detects a music broadcast. In a second embodiment, the radio receiver changes to a different radio station when a voice-only signal is detected, or when a music signal is detected. The second embodiment preferably includes a spectrum analyzer that can store a frequency spectrum “signature” of a radio signal, and a second tuner that scans the available radio stations for a signal that matches the stored signature.

Long time interleaver and listenable audio performance enhancements for a satellite receiver are presented. One enhancement includes comparing a correlation and a predetermined threshold value and blocking satellite signal data transmission from entry into long time interleaver (LTI) device circuitry and forward error correction (FEC) circuitry when the correlation value is the same as, or less than the predetermined threshold value. Another enhancement includes using Reed-Solomon codeword error checking to prevent erroneous baseband signal data from being accepted as good baseband signal data. A further enhancement includes storing symbol timing and frequency data during a strong signal condition of the satellite receiver and using this stored data when the satellite receiver encounters a weak signal condition. Another enhancement includes mitigating DC offset noise in a satellite receiver having a zero-IF tuner.

A device according to one embodiment includes a variable-capacitor-tuned isolation tuning circuit having a directional coupler having an input port, an output port, an isolation port, and a coupling port. A set-top box system for viewing digital broadcasts includes: a plurality of televisions (TVs); and one set-top box for receiving digital broadcasts including multi-programs, and transmitting single programs selected by program selection requests of TV viewers to the plurality of TVs, the set-top box including: a memory having a program guide database of digital broadcasts; a tuner and demodulator for selecting and demodulating digital broadcasts of a main channel preset in the memory in the received digital broadcasts, and generating the demodulated digital broadcasts as a multi-program transport stream; a controller for controlling each of the sub-channels corresponding to each program selection request of the TV viewers by adopting packetized ID (Identification) information of the multi-program transport stream and the program guide database; a plurality of transport demultiplexers for selecting sub-channels responsive to each program selection request of the TV viewers upon receiving a control signal of the controller, and respectively providing single programs on the selected sub-channels; a plurality of single program decoders for decoding the single programs, respectively; and a transmitter for transmitting the decoded single programs.
