The described principles provide a method and system for identifying potentially closed roads and potentially open roads based on reroute requests, and of accommodating the potential road closure. If a reroute request is received from a user on a given route, the avoided roads of the route may be deemed potentially closed. If a predetermined number or a statistically significant number of users treat the road as potentially closed in this manner, it may be deemed closed. Similarly, if a supposedly closed road is chosen by a predetermined number of users, as evidenced by reroute requests, then the supposedly closed road may be deemed to be open. Moreover, observation of reroute requests also allows the system to automatically learn a user's route preferences.

The present invention relates, generally, to a portable system for UV spectroscopy capable of the detection and quantification of chemicals from either open air environments or by insertion of a sample using a sample chamber. The system is capable of simultaneously detecting and quantifying chemicals in either a gaseous or liquid form with both sharp and broad spectroscopic features. UV light is generated, collimated into a beam, and focused through a sample volume. The volume can be comprised of an open environment system, or a closed system with a sample cell. The sample cell may contain a number of mirrors which results in one or more “bounces” of light through the volume prior to being focused into a UV Spectrometer. The said light source may be supplied by a variety of sources. Said light is collected and transferred to the processor by short length optical fibers thereby minimizing the light loss in the deep UV.

Dual motor strapper

A pneumatic strapping tool for tensioning a strap around a load, adhering the strap onto itself, and cutting a feed end of the strap includes a piston, a weld motor operably connected to the piston and a vibrating weld element operably connected to the piston for contacting the strap and adhering the strap onto itself. A tensioning motor is configured for unidirectional rotation. A feed wheel is operably connected to the tensioning motor by a drive assembly to tension the strap prior to adhering the strap onto itself. A transmission cooperates with the drive assembly and is switchable between a first state in which the transmission engages the drive assembly to permit only one-way rotation of the drive assembly and a second state in which the transmission permits two-way rotation of the drive assembly. The strapping tool includes a self-contained pneumatic module that is removably mounted to a cylinder housing. The module includes a compressed gas inlet, a plurality of valves and passageways between the inlet and the valves to provide compressed gas to the cylinder housing, a pneumatic weld motor and the pneumatic tensioning motor. The module includes at least one timer for operation of the weld motor and for providing pressure to the cylinder. An articulating guide is disposed at the strap path and moves between an open path position when the tensioning motor housing is pivoted to the loading / unloading position and a closed path position when the tensioning motor housing is pivoted to the strap engaging position. The guide aligns the strap with a second strap to which the strap it is adhered and aligns the straps with the feed wheel and anvil.

The present invention provides a transmitter unit for an open path gas detector for detecting a target gas and comprises: a radiation transmitter, e.g. a tuneable laser diode, capable of emitting radiation at a wavelength absorbed by the target gas, and a radiation deflector, having a deflecting part and a non-deflecting part, e.g. a mirror having a non-reflective part. The deflecting part and the non-deflecting part are located in the path of the radiation emitted by the transmitter and the non-deflecting part does not deflect the said radiation emitted by the transmitter or does so to a different extent than the deflecting part. In this way, the beam has a core in shadow that can be used to align the beam with a receiver unit. The radiation deflector is preferably a mirror having a reflective surface for reflecting radiation emitted by the transmitter and a non-reflective part that does not reflect the said radiation emitted by the transmitter or does so to a lesser extent that the reflecting surface. The non-reflective part is preferably transparent so that it allows radiation to pass through it, which can be used to measure the wavelength of the transmitter and, if necessary correct it.

A spring biases the damping piston into a normal position in a steady state of the valve and allows bidirectional armature motion therefrom. When the armature moves at low velocity, a pressure increase in one chamber is relieved by flow through the damping orifice. As the armature velocity increases, so too does pressure in the one chamber, causing the damping piston to move relative to the armature, thereby adding damping force from the spring to the armature.
