An aqueous solution (pH=4.5) of macleaya cordata total alkaloids has the minimum sperm-killing concentration of 0.50 mg / L within the time of 20 seconds and the minimum sperm-killing concentration of 0.30 mg / L within the time of 3 minutes, and hydroxymethyl propyl cellulose gel of macleaya cordata total alkaloids has the minimum sperm-killing concentration of 0.8 mg / kg and the ED50 (50% effective dose) value of 0.189 mg / kg in an antifertility test.
