Embodiment Construction

[0044] Best Mode for Carrying Out the Invention

[0045] refer to Figure 1 to Figure 3 , a strength training device 100 is provided. According to certain embodiments, apparatus 100 includes a base member 102 and a tower or support structure 104 coupled to and extending upwardly from base member 102 . The base may be configured to include a plurality of legs 106A-106C extending away from each other to provide a stable base or platform for device 100 and to support device 100 when force is applied thereto by a person exercising with device 100 . exist Figure 1 to Figure 3In the illustrated embodiment, the base member 102 includes three legs. It should be noted, however, that other configurations are also conceivable.

[0046] A pair of arms 108A and 108B are pivotally coupled to tower 104 by bearings 110 or other mechanical structure. Bearing 110 enables arms 108A and 108B to move as directional arrows 112 ( figure 1 ) indicated relative to the tower 104 and the base mem...

Abstract

Embodiments of a strength training apparatus and related methods are provided. In one embodiment, the strength training apparatus includes a base member and a tower structure coupled with the base member. At least one arm is pivotally coupled with the tower structure. A flywheel and a cable and pulley system are associated with the at least one arm, wherein displacement of at least one cable of the cable and pulley system effects rotation of the flywheel. The strength training apparatus may include a selectively adjustable magnetic braking mechanism associated with a flywheel that is configured to apply a selected resistance to the rotation of the flywheel. A torque sensor may be associated with the flywheel and the measured torque during operation of the apparatus may be used to calculate the work expended in rotating the flywheel. In one embodiment, the calculated work may be expressed in units of watts.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority to US Provisional Patent Application 61 / 786,007, filed March 14, 2013. technical field [0003] The present disclosure relates to exercise equipment. More specifically, the present disclosure relates to strength training equipment including flywheels and related methods. Background technique [0004] While there are many types of exercise activities that people can engage in, exercise can be broadly divided into aerobic and anaerobic categories. Aerobic exercise generally refers to substantially increasing the exerciser's heart rate and respiration over a sustained period of time. This type of exercise is usually aimed at enhancing cardiovascular performance. Such exercises typically involve low or moderate resistance to the individual's movement. For example, aerobic exercise includes activities such as walking, running, jogging, swimming, or cycling over long distances and prolong...
