Embodiment Construction

[0081] First refer to Figure 1 to Figure 3 , the drug delivery device 1 is shown as an injector pen having an elongated generally writing implement-like form, but other forms are within the scope of the invention. In other words, the drug delivery device 1 may be a pen-type device. The drug delivery device 1 comprises a housing with a cartridge holder 2 and a main (outer) body or housing 4 .

[0082] The drug delivery device 1 and the housing have a distal end and a proximal end. The term "distal end" designates the end of the drug delivery device 1 or a component thereof which is or will be arranged closest to the dispensing end of the drug delivery device 1 . The term "proximal end" designates the end of the device 1 or a component thereof which is or will be arranged furthest from the dispensing end of the device 1 . The distal end and the proximal end are spaced apart from each other in the direction of the axis. The axis may be the longitudinal axis or the rotational...

Abstract

A drug delivery device (1) is provided comprising a housing (4), a lead screw (22) that is rotatably fixed with respect to the housing (4) during dose setting and during dose delivery and that is axially moveable in a delivery direction relative to the housing (4) for dose delivery, a number sleeve (23) threadedly engaged with the housing (4) to be screwable relative to the housing (4), and a dial link (25a) which is axially moveable and rotatable with respect to the housing (4) for dose setting and which is prevented from rotation with respect to the housing (4) for dose delivery. The dial link (25) is rotatably fixed with the number sleeve (23) when the dial link (25a) and the number sleeve (24) are in a first arrangement, and the number sleeve (24) and the dial link (25a) are rotatable with respect to one another when the dial link (25) and the number sleeve (24) are in a second arrangement. The device (1) further comprises a unidirectional coupling (100) which is adapted and arranged to allow a relative rotation between the dial link (25a) and the number sleeve (24) in a first direction while preventing relative rotation between the dial link (25a) and the number sleeve (24) in a direction opposite to the first direction when the dial link (25a) and the number sleeve (24) are in the second arrangement.

Description

technical field [0001] This patent disclosure relates generally to pen-type injection devices and in particular to dose setting mechanisms for such drug delivery devices. Such a device provides self-administration of medicinal product from a multi-dose cartridge and allows the user to set the delivered dose. The present disclosure may find application in both disposable and reusable types of drug delivery devices. However, aspects of the invention are equally applicable in other contexts. Background technique [0002] Pen-type drug delivery devices can be used in situations where routine injections are performed by personnel without formal medical training. This is becoming increasingly common among patients with diabetes, where self-treatment allows such patients to effectively manage their disease. Diabetes has been shown to cause certain problems. For example, people with diabetes can develop high blood pressure, kidney disease, nerve damage, heart disease and even bl...
