The present invention describes a cartridge for use in an aerosol generating system. The cartridge comprises a liquid storage portion comprising a housing (24) for holding a liquid aerosol-forming substrate, wherein the liquid storage portion comprises at least two components in fluid communication with each other. The first component (32) of the liquid storage portion includes a heater assembly (46), a first capillary material (36) disposed in contact with the heater assembly, and a first capillary material (36) in contact with and formed by the first capillary material A second capillary material (38) spaced apart from the first capillary material and the heater assembly. Said second part (34) of said liquid storage portion comprises a container, such as a water tank, for holding the aerosol-forming substrate in liquid form and supplying said liquid to said second capillary material.
