Problems solved by technology

Although software platforms exist that attempt to perform revisions on native PDF database files, this method (the database revision method), along with those systems that can convert PDF files to an internal third-party proprietary format, is difficult and problematic to encode this degraded condition. risky
In this archival context, ensuring the preservation and access of PDF records along with ensuring reliability in digital environments is complicated by the fact that preserving PDF pages will always require the burden of some form of binary level transformation using these database revision methods
As a result, it's not always clear how to handle this downgraded situation programmatically, and some information may be lost or distorted in the course of the revision
[0009] Currently, there is no way to selectively select from within the same PDF file from some users (but not others) without creating duplicate role-based PDF file records that are suboptimal and a hindrance to effective protection of confidential content. review confidential information

Abstract

A computer implemented method of selectively controlling redacted content from an electronic document having one or more pages is provided. The method includes providing a file record associated with the electronic document and one or more page records within the file record. Each page record corresponds to the one or more pages in the electronic document. For each page with redacted content, one or more redacted page image records are provided and each redacted page image record is associated with an authorization level. The one or more page records are selectively displayed and the one or more redacted page image records are selectively displayed based on the authorization level associated with a user viewing the electronic document.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a computer-implemented method and system for selectively revising content from electronic documents based on a user's authorization level. Background technique [0002] Document control plays an important role in many organizations. Electronic documents, particularly Portable Document Format (PDF) files, are widely used, but control of content contained in PDFs and dissemination of information are problematic. An electronic document is usually a PDF file, but it doesn't have to be, it can be any type of file. [0003] Currently, access to PDFs can only be given on an "all or nothing" basis, since PDFs are preset to be displayed as a whole. Current methods do not work very efficiently - today's institutions must rely heavily on "human trust" as a means of security against disclosing confidential pages that are inadvertently encountered. Furthermore, this arrangement is not practical when dealing with large numbers of ...
