Problems solved by technology

If the dose exceeds a certain limit, the device will issue a warning and the user may, for example, be encouraged to wear hearing protection
[0015] The three main limitations of such devices are: 1) initial cost, 2) maintenance (e.g., calibration and recharging), and 3) the self-discipline required for each individual to hold and wear a dosimeter at all times

Embodiment Construction

[0128] Note that, as for example in Figure 4 , Figure 9 and Figure 14 to Figure 16 The audio amplifier shown in , while typically part of a sound system and included in preferred embodiments of the invention, may not be implemented in some embodiments of the invention. Thus, the determination of an estimate of an acoustic characteristic of embodiments of the present invention, preferably sound pressure level or sound exposure, before rendering by the loudspeaker may take place before, after or integrated with amplifying the input signal.

[0129] Figure 4 is a schematic diagram of a sound system SS that receives an input signal IS and produces sound in an acoustic environment AE based on the input signal. The sound system includes an audio amplifier AA and a plurality of speakers LS. The audio system may optionally include other audio processing modules, such as decoders, equalizers, compressors, filters, and the like. The input signal is a mono channel, stereo channe...

Abstract

Disclosed is a method of determining in real-time an estimate value of a sound pressure level or sound exposure corresponding to sound produced in an acoustic environment by multiple loudspeakers of a sound system in response to an input signal to the sound system. The method comprises determining in real-time the estimated value of the sound pressure level or sound exposure on the basis of the input signal. The sound system is a level-calibrated sound system. Also disclosed is a real-time sound level estimator. Also disclosed are a method and a real-time sound level estimator where the estimated value is based on an approximate value of system properties based on microphone measurements, or established for multiple listening positions, respectively. Also disclosed are methods of calibrating and monitoring a sound system and calibration and monitoring devices therefore.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to sound level estimation. Background technique [0002] Many rooms or halls are equipped with sound systems so that, for example, music or announcements can be played for the audience or guests in the hall. Similarly, concert venues will have PA systems, movie theaters will have movie sound reproduction systems, and studios will have audio monitoring systems. [0003] A modern studio, movie theater or home theater will have some type of surround sound system that supports at least 5.1 or 7.1 channel sound reproduction. Bars, cafes and discos often have "home" sound systems installed, comprising dozens or even hundreds of loudspeakers. In larger facilities, different audio sources may be played in different areas, so that "listeners" at two different locations will hear the same audio but at different levels, or completely different audio. [0004] In all of the above situations, it is desirable to know the sound pressu...
