The invention provides a volume adjusting method. The volume adjusting method is applied to an electronic device that is playing a video file. The volume adjusting method comprises the following steps: confirming an application scene of the electronic device, wherein the application scene comprises an incoming call is monitored or a call is performed; when the application scene is that the incoming call is monitored, controlling to play the video file at a first volume lower than the ringtone volume of the incoming call; when the application scene is that the call is performed, detecting whether call voice exists at present; and adjusting the volume of playing the video file according to a detection result to facilitate the call. The invention further provides a volume adjusting device. By adoption of the volume adjusting device and method provided by the invention, when the video is played, the volume of playing the video file is controlled according to whether the incoming call is monitored or the call is performed so as to facilitate the answer of the incoming call or the execution of the call.
